Artist's Comments

This is a litho I did, in two layers, based off a photo I took on a trip to Casa Loma in Toronto. I love fancy furniture and old, grand things, so I was enchanted by the whole castle. The light green layer is a soft-ground, an impression of actual fabric. The darker layer uses aquatint for the tone.

I really liked the soft ground part. I also like the colour of it. Was it yellow that turned green when it reacted with the copper plate? Either way it's nice. I also really like how you've drawn the pattern of the light coming through the window on the chair.

Thanks for your comment! I experimented quite extensively with the colours, and that shade of greeny-yellow was difficult to get right. The colour in the print is the same as what I mixed, and luckily it didn't react with the copper (another girl in my class chose a pink shade for her print, and it turned a muddy shade of grey!)

I took a look at your gallery too, and I feel like I've seen your self-portrait body series somewhere before, did you put it in a show? I'm also an art student in toronto, so it's possible!

I did have a show earlier in the year at York U. Where do you go to school?

I knew it, I go to York too!

I'm going into third year. I haven't had my own show yet, definitely something I want to try this year.
What year are you going into?

Very nice and calming. Good shading, nice texture. Good everything.

Lovely job.
